The Advantages of Dry Ice Blasting for Any Cleaning Application
Dry ice blasting uses CO₂ dry ice pellets and compressed air to lift grease, paint and coatings from suitable surfaces.
The dry ice blasting cleaning process is controlled and dry, helping reduce added water, loose media and clean-up waste.
Why Choose Dry Ice Blasting?
- Dry ice blasting: surface-safe residue removal.
- Dry method: no water or harsh chemicals.
- Less strip-down: useful around machinery and tools.
- Broad uses: industrial, marine, food and restoration cleaning.
- Less secondary clean-up: Unlike traditional cleaning methods that rely on water or abrasive materials, dry ice turns to gas on impact, helping reduce secondary waste on site.

Dry ice blasting is a dry cleaning process that uses solid carbon dioxide pellets and controlled air pressure to lift residue from suitable surfaces. It helps teams plan dry ice blasting or ice blasting without added water, grit or loose blasting media.
For surface preparation and industrial cleaning, Gransden uses professional dry ice blasting machines to control the air stream, pellet flow and cleaning intensity for the surface in front of the operator.
1. Dry ice pellets
Dry ice pellets are fed into professional dry ice blasting equipment and carried towards the surface for controlled ice blasting in a steady air stream.
2. Controlled cleaning process
The dry ice blasting impact cools and loosens grease, soot, coatings or build-up, helping the dry ice blasting cleaning process work without soaking the area.
3. No secondary blasting media
After contact, the dry ice sublimates, so the main clean-up is the material removed from the surface rather than extra blasting media.
Gransden supports commercial, industrial and restoration teams that need a dry ice blasting service for surfaces, machinery and specialist ice blasting tasks.
Industrial machinery
Use dry ice blasting for machinery, tools and components where water, grit or residue from other dry ice blasting methods would add clean-up work.
Restoration surfaces
Ice blasting can help with surface preparation on timber, brick, stone and detailed materials where a controlled method is preferred.
Production areas
Dry ice cleaning can support production equipment cleaning when teams want a dry method with no secondary blasting media.
Specialist access
A mobile dry ice blasting service can help reach recesses, edges and awkward areas where dry ice blasting is difficult to replicate by hand.
Dry ice blasting cost and ice blasting cost depend on the surface, access, contamination, working area and whether the dry ice blasting clean can be completed in place.
Send photos, surface details and access information so the Gransden team can recommend the most practical dry ice cleaning approach for your dry ice blasting project.
EXCELLENT Based on 8 reviews Posted on SteveTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. As a digital printer and ink supplier and manufacturer, we had a specialist application that required testing before we went ahead with the blasting itself. This was no problem for Grandsen and we received test results quickly. When it came to the visit itself, it was done at the weekend so it we wouldn't interfere with our business operations. Very happy with the results and the service.Posted on Steve WallerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I cannot rate this company enough! I live in a Grade II Listed property and needed the beams striipped back from being painted black in both the dining room and kitchen. I was pre-warned about the amount of dust that is produced but it is far less clearing up than traditional sand blasting. Also, sand blasting would have taken a lot more of the beams away as some of them were in very poor condition once the paint was removed. But, be aware....... This process still produces a LOT of dust and you will not be able to stop it spreading around the rest of your property. I was prepared for this but even I was surprised how much and how far it spread! Things to note: Only get this done if you are prepared to put up with a LOT of mess. Don't expect the beams to be in perfect condition once they have completed. Some may be rotten, full of filler or may just not look that great. You will need to give the beams some TLC afterwards. I sanded a lot of them down and had to reshape others. Expect to do some making good and filling to the walls and ceilings around the beams. For us, the end product was definitely worth the upheaval as the removal of the black paint has certainly brightened up the rooms. Final shout out goes to the guys who carried out the works who were helpful and friendly.Posted on Nicholas MillsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Dry Ice Cleaning Questions
How dry ice blasting works on site
Dry ice blasting uses dry ice pellets and controlled air pressure to lift unwanted material, then the cleaning media turns to gas on impact.
Does ice blasting leave waste behind?
The dry ice disappears as gas, so the main clean-up is the coating, residue or contamination removed from the surface rather than a second ice blasting medium.
Can Gransden provide mobile dry ice blasting?
Yes. Gransden provides a mobile dry ice blasting service for suitable commercial, industrial and restoration projects across the UK.
What helps with a quote?
Photos and access details help the team assess surface type, contamination, site access and the right blasting service for the job.
Can you work indoors and around electrics?
Yes. The process is dry, with no water or chemical residue, so it’s suitable for indoor areas and sensitive electrical/mechanical components where wet cleaning isn’t appropriate.
Do you clean food-production equipment?
Yes. Dry ice blasting can support food factories by removing baked-on residues without adding water, grit or harsh chemicals.
Can you help with fire and smoke restoration?
Yes. It removes char/soot staining from timber and other surfaces and helps eliminate odours without damaging the substrate.
What about automotive parts and underbodies?
It’s precise and mess-free for removing paint, loose rust, underseal and grime, without soaking parts or introducing abrasives that could damage components.
Is it environmentally friendly?
Dry ice blasting uses no solvents or added chemicals. CO₂ pellets sublimate, so there’s no secondary media to dispose of—only the contaminant removed.
Do you offer on-site service? What areas do you cover?
Yes, most of our work is mobile dry ice blasting at your premises. We are based in Kent and provide mobile service across the UK, including major cities such as London, Birmingham, Manchester and everywhere else! Please contact us to confirm availability for your location.
